Flywheel fits, clutch bolted on easy, transmission mated no problem
Drivetrain went in mostly painlessly
Now the issue is getting the transmission cross member to fit. The one that came with the manual trans (from 1986.5 Supra NA) is not wide enough so I have to use the Cressida auto one. I've tried every combination of every orientation with the crossmember and both transmission mounts from both gearboxes and I can't get the bolt holes to line up with any of the bajillion threaded holes in the chassis, so I have to go buy more roto-zip-style bits for my dremel so I can slot the holes in the trans member. However, most electronics are connected, power steering and alternator are hooked up, AC is connected but needs to be tightened, there are a few fuel hoses that still need to be routed, but it's going OK in the engine bay so far.
Also, the speedo cable drive is on the opposite side with this trans, so the speedo cable will be RIGHT next to the exhaust. I may have to get some heat wrap for the cable and/or wrap the exhaust there.

5M-GE?
*doesn't know Toyota motors and hasn't seen that one before, especially not from the flywheel view

Yep. The best sounding Toyota engine (LFA nonwithstanding) ever, in my opinion.

How is it in terms of aftermarket? Does it share much with the 7M-GE/GTE? How is it by comparison?
Teach me the secrets of this Toyota I6.

Have you tried flipping the cross-member? A lot of guys do that when swapping the W58 into 1st & 2nd Gen Celicas.

They're pretty similar. I can't remember if it's 5 head/7 block or 5 block/7 head makes a "6M" (I know there was an actual 6M from Japan, but this is something I've heard being done).

I like the head design a lot. A forward facing manifold off to the side to free up the top of the head and clean things up a bit. Just a thought.

5M head on a 7M block or 5M with 7M crank is more or less a 6M

Ahh. I know I could only do a 20R head on a 22R block for my hybrid setup (although I bought it from someone, but that's the only way to do it for the R series).

That would work, but I don't want to halve the number of bolts holding it up.

Almost no real aftermarket. Most everything is community made. As for the Cressida Wagon itself there is exactly zero support. Some of the front bits are interchangeable with the sedan but that's it.
